County Average Private Employment and Wages in Arkansas

The chart below examines quarterly private employment and wages for all counties in Arkansas with an average employment level of 9,000 or more during the third quarter of 2020 (23 counties). From the third quarter of 2019 to the third quarter of 2020, all counties experienced a decrease in employment. Miller county experienced the largest over-the-year decrease with a loss of 10.9 percent while Benton county had the smallest decrease with a loss of 0.01 percent.

Among the 23 counties, 22 showed over-the-year increases in average weekly wages. Carroll county had the highest with a gain of 10.8 percent followed by Miller (10.7 percent) and Independence (10.4 percent). The two largest counties in terms of average employment, Pulaski and Benton, exhibited modest increases in their average weekly wages with 7.9 percent and 6.3 percent respectively.
